Armitage's versatile dolly is willing to take on many loads, though it does need some modifications to tackle a vehicle like the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter or the ubiquitous Ford Transit. In standard form it will look after everything from super minis and sporting cars right through to executive saloons.

It needs to be specially widened to carry today's range of vans and pick ups. Unlike the standard dolly at 2.29m (7ft 6) overall width, the van-carrying version of the dolly is 2.5 metres wide overall (8ft 2½) and can only be towed by commercial vehicles with a gross weight in excess of 3.5 tonnes (3500kg). The extra-wide dolly is £1575 plus vat, ex works.
